  1. Always having to be right:

One of the most common behaviours of narcissistic individuals is their incessant need to always be right. They struggle to accept being wrong and will go to great lengths to prove their point, even if it means belittling or dismissing others’ opinions. For example, a narcissistic coworker may constantly argue with colleagues to assert their dominance and invalidate their ideas.

  1. Easily offended:

  1. Playing the hard done to play victim:

For example, a narcissistic colleague may spread rumours or make disparaging remarks about a coworker who received a promotion that they desired.

For instance, a narcissistic family member may exploit your compassion so you enable them or make you feel guilty if you dare say no to them.

Lastly, narcissistic individuals often demonstrate a lack of respect for others, including their feelings, opinions, and boundaries. They may use derogatory language, belittle others, or engage in controlling behaviours to assert their dominance. For example, a narcissistic boss may disrespect their employees by micromanaging their every move and dismissing their input in important decisions.

Ways to protect yourself from narcissistic types:

Dealing with narcissistic individuals can be challenging, but there are several strategies you can employ to protect yourself from their toxic behaviours:

Set boundaries: Clearly communicate your boundaries once and stick to them, even when faced with resistance or manipulation from narcissistic individuals. Remember, the best boundaries when dealing with narcissists are psychological, emotional and physical distance.

Limit contact: If possible, minimise contact with narcissistic individuals to reduce their negative impact on your life and well-being.
